Interview Questions for the first round of interviews
The recruitment process is time consuming. At the outset you're inundated with applications. You feel swamped. You skim through the cover letters or maybe have a quick glance at the front pages of the resumés starting to clog up your inbox.
A few key words, relevant job titles, or ‘nice-to-have’ company names jump out at you. You immediately pick up the phone to book a candidate in for an interview. No questions asked. It’s just a call to book them in to see you. So far so good?
Unfortunately not. So many hiring managers make this mistake. Then they walk into the interview only to quickly realize that the candidate in front of them is totally wrong for the role (or company) in question.
Use first round interviews to quickly eliminate weak candidates
The key is to spend just a few minutes on the phone assessing candidates. This will help you to quickly identify those candidates who qualify for a face-to-face interview.
Use Good First Interview Questions to Save Time
You don't need to do hour long interviews. If you use the right questions you can do 30-minute first interviews. Saving 50% of your first interview time is a very worthwhile saving.
